Crusaders

Applicants for membership as a Crusader shall be men or women of proven lineal descent from one or more of the Crusaders of Knightly or Higher Rank who participated in one or more of the regular and/or interim Crusades between 1096 and 1291, and who made great personal sacrifices, endured great hardship and performed heroically. Applicants for membership as a Crusader may also establish eligibility by proving lineal descent from the spouse of any Crusader of Knightly or Higher Rank who accompanied the Crusader on a Crusade.

The following is a partial list of recognized Crusaders who have proven descent. As new information comes to light every day, The Order retains the right to accept or turn down a line based on the most current genealogical research. This is a work in progress and new lineages will be ongoing.

*Earldom of Norfolk
The Title was created in 1067.
1st Earl of Norfolk was Ralph the Staller
2nd Earl of Norfolk was his son Ralph de Gael
The Title was forfeited in 1074.
The Title was created again in 1140/41 when it was awarded to Hugh Le Bigod. Thus he was the recreated 1st Earl or the 3rd Earl numerically.
This accounts for his listing as the 3rd Earl in Magna Carta Ancestry by Richardson. This Hugh Bigod was not a Magna Carta Surety.
